Lost Galleries – Sri Lanka

Our travels and photography continued through 2016, while our writing about travel slowed down.  Therefore, we have decided to publish our photography with a minimal of commentary.  The “Lost Galleries” series begins in Sri Lanka.

We spent the last three months of 2015 exploring Europe, enjoying what it had to offer during the low-tourist season.  The experience was great, but we grew tired of being out in the cold.  Additionally, we had to leave the Schengen Travel Zone for at least ninety days.  For our next stop we wanted someplace warmer, more beach-like.

In early December we started making plans for our next destination.  Zanzibar was expensive, the Maldives were in the rainy season (and expensive),  we hadn’t done enough research for India, how about Sri Lanka?  It had a mix of beach locations for relaxing and inland cultural experiences.  An inexpensive flight was found and Sri Lanka became our next destination.

We spent two weeks in Unawatuna near the beach warming up, getting tan, and falling off surfboards.  Moving inland, we explored Ella, Kandy, and Anuradhapura.  We visited tea plantations, elephant sanctuaries, and the location of the Duran Duran video for “Save a Prayer”.  The photos of these explorations are presented below.
